Craftex was appointed to deliver the interior of a cancer care centre — a project where design carries an emotional weight most fit-outs never have to. The space had to feel calm, warm and human for people facing the hardest days of their lives, while meeting the hygiene, accessibility and durability standards healthcare environments demand. We managed the project end to end, treating the human experience and the technical compliance as equally non-negotiable.

Sensitive delivery, single point of contact.

A calming space, engineered for care.

Project Overview
A care environment can't tolerate the noise, dust and disruption of a normal building site. Craftex managed every trade directly and worked to protect the people around the project, delivering a demanding technical fit-out with the sensitivity the setting required.

Everything a patient sees was chosen to lower stress — soft lighting, warm materials, natural tones and a layout that feels open rather than clinical. Everything they don't see was engineered for healthcare: wipe-clean, infection-conscious surfaces, accessible circulation, and finishes built to survive constant, rigorous use.

The brief asked for two things that usually pull against each other: a space that feels soft and human, and one that meets the unforgiving standards of a clinical environment. We led with the patient — warm tones, considered lighting, natural materials and an open, non-institutional layout — then engineered the compliance invisibly underneath: hygienic, durable surfaces, accessible routes, and detailing that holds up to infection-control cleaning without looking like a hospital.

Designing for reassurance and compliance at once

A care setting demands a pre-construction plan most projects never need. We specified healthcare-compliant materials, sequenced the works to minimise disruption, and put dust, noise and access controls in place to protect everyone near the project. Procurement was planned so compliant, long-lead items arrived on time and the programme never pressured the standards.

Planning a build around vulnerable people

Craftex managed every trade directly and delivered the works with the discipline a care environment requires — clean, contained and considerate. Holding finish quality and compliance together, under the constraints of a sensitive setting, was the core of the job, and direct control of the trades is what made it achievable.

Executing a sensitive fit-out

The finished centre does what the brief asked: it reassures. It reads as a warm, dignified, human space, while meeting the healthcare standards that protect the people who use it. Our aftercare support continued beyond handover to keep the environment performing.

Challenges & Solutions
01
Solutions
We led with warmth — soft lighting, natural tones, an open layout — and engineered the clinical compliance invisibly beneath it.
Patient-first design
04
Challenges
Compliant long-lead items were ordered early so standards were never traded away under programme pressure.
Planned procurement
03
Dust, noise and access controls plus careful phasing shielded everyone near the project from the realities of the build.
Protective sequencing
02
Wipe-clean, hard-wearing, hygienic materials were specified throughout so the space meets standard and survives daily clinical use.
Infection-conscious specification
04
Healthcare-grade finishes carry strict specifications and longer procurement, with no room to compromise on standard.
Compliant, long-lead materials
03
Noise, dust and site traffic that a normal build accepts were simply not acceptable around vulnerable people.
A setting intolerant of disruption
02
Every surface had to withstand rigorous infection-control cleaning and constant use without looking institutional.
Hygiene and durability standards
01
The space needed to reassure people on the hardest days of their lives while still meeting the standards of a healthcare environment.
A clinical brief that had to feel human
Every commercial fit-out has its constraints. Here's how this one was solved.
