Clean power for a house that was never built for it
Most London homes were not designed for panels, batteries or heat pumps. Slate roofs, parapets, conservation rules, an old fuse board and no obvious place for a battery all get in the way.
We take all of it under one contract: survey, design, consents, roof, electrics and installation. You deal with one director, work to one date and receive one file of certificates. If the house is being renovated, the system goes in while the walls are open.

Everything a home energy system needs, under one contract
Panels, battery, charger and heat pump planned together, so they share one supply and one survey.
Solar panels
On the roof, set into it or on a flat roof behind the parapet, laid out from your usage and the shade your roof gets.
Home battery storage
Sized to your evenings, charged by the sun or cheap overnight power, and mounted where it is safe to live with.
EV chargers
A smart charger on the drive or in the garage, fed by the panels and managed so the main fuse never trips.
Air source heat pumps
Sized from a room-by-room heat-loss survey, with the radiators and hot water cylinder to match, and a quiet spot outside.
Electrics and roof made ready
Consumer unit, earthing, cable routes and any slipped slates dealt with first, so the system starts on sound ground.
Listed and conservation homes
Arrays kept out of street view, fixings that can be reversed, and the consent application drawn up by our planners.
How it works
How a home energy project runs with us
01
Send us the basics
Your address, a photo of the roof and last year's electricity use. That is enough for a first layout and the planning route.
02
Survey and design
We check the roof structure, the shading, the fuse board and a safe home for the battery. Then you get a layout and a fixed figure.
03
Consents and grid
Planning or listed building consent, a freeholder's licence for a flat, the network operator's approval and the heat pump grant paperwork, all handled for you.
04
Install, house protected
Scaffold up, rooms covered, cables run through voids rather than chased into plaster. The roof is made good before the scaffold comes down.
05
Switch-on and paperwork
Commissioned, tested and shown to you on the app, then one file with every certificate and warranty.

Where home solar projects usually go wrong, and what we do instead
| Area | The usual risk | With Craftex |
|---|---|---|
| Responsibility | A solar firm, an electrician, a roofer and a heat pump company, each blaming the others when output disappoints. | Roofing, electrics, storage and heating sit under one contract, and one director answers for every part. |
| The final bill | The quote covers panels only, then scaffold, a new fuse board and roof repairs arrive as extras. | Scaffold, electrical upgrades and roof repairs are surveyed and priced before you sign anything. |
| Disruption | Muddy boots on the stairs, cables chased through finished plaster and an outdoor unit under the neighbour's bedroom window. | Floors and finishes protected, cable routes planned in advance, and the outdoor unit sited where nobody will hear it. |
| The date | Panels on the roof in spring, then weeks of waiting for the network operator before anything switches on. | The grid application goes in at design stage, so the system can run the day the work finishes. |
| Compliance | Panels on a listed roof without consent, or a battery fitted beside the only way out of the house. | Consents, the freeholder's licence and the battery location are settled before anyone climbs a ladder. |
| Handover | An app login and a phone number that stops answering when the installer closes down. | Certificates, warranties and export paperwork handed over in one file by a company trading since 2016. |

Solar panels and home batteries in London, your questions
How much do solar panels cost for a house in London?
Most London houses suit a 4–6 kWp system, which costs around £6,500–£10,000 fitted. Government data on certified installations put the median at £1,780 per kW for 4–10 kW systems in 2024–25, and prices fell again in 2025–26. A 5–10 kWh battery adds roughly £4,000–£8,000, and a smart charger £800–£1,200. Tall scaffold and an old fuse board add to that. Home installation carries 0% VAT until 31 March 2027.
Do I need planning permission for solar panels in a conservation area or on a listed house?
On most houses, no: roof panels are permitted development if they sit within 20 cm of the roof slope and stay below the ridge. In a conservation area they cannot go on a wall facing the road, and some boroughs remove these rights altogether. A listed house always needs listed building consent, and councils favour rear slopes, flat roofs and parapets that hide the array. Our planning consultancy prepares the application with the design.
Will a heat pump heat a period London house?
Often yes, but the house decides, not the brochure. A room-by-room heat-loss survey shows which radiators need enlarging and where insulation or draught-proofing pays first. Since May 2025, permitted development allows larger units and two per house, subject to a noise standard. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme takes £7,500 off an eligible air source heat pump. Our article on eco-friendly luxury home design covers fabric first.
Do solar panels add value to a London home?
The evidence points to a modest premium. An analysis of nearly 1.5 million Zoopla listings linked solar panels to prices 6.1–7.1% higher; a 2021 industry study of five million sales found 0.9–2%. The surer gain is a better EPC, which buyers and lenders now read closely. Keep the certificates: a buyer's surveyor will ask for them.
What is in the free solar and battery plan, and which homes do you take on?
Send us a recent electricity bill, your address and a photo of the roof. We return a panel layout, a battery size, the planning route and an indicative cost, at no charge. A survey follows before any fixed figure. We focus on prime and period London houses: whole-home systems under one contract, or a system of any size fitted during a Craftex renovation. Running a business premises? See our commercial solar installation service.
Is a home battery worth it?
Usually, if you have panels, an electric car, a heat pump or a time-of-use tariff. Panels produce most at midday, when many houses stand empty; a battery keeps that power for the evening. Without panels, it charges on cheap overnight rates and runs the house at peak times. The gain depends on your tariff and habits, so we size the battery from your bills.
How long does a solar and battery installation take?
The building work is short; the paperwork sets the pace. With scaffold up, panels and a battery normally take a few days on site. Larger systems and most batteries need the network operator's approval before connection, which can take several weeks. A heat pump adds a few days for the unit, pipework and cylinder. Your switch-on date goes into the contract after the survey.
Is it safe to have a home battery inside the house?
Yes, when it is sited properly. The British Standards Institution's PAS 63100:2024 guidance keeps home batteries away from escape routes and habitable rooms, with fire detection nearby. In a London house that usually means a garage, plant room, utility room or an outside wall. We choose the spot at survey and show you before anything is fixed.
Can you fit solar and a heat pump during my renovation?
That is the best moment to do it. With floors up and plaster off, cables, the cylinder and underfloor heating go in without damaging finished rooms. Scaffold already up for roof work can serve the panels as well. We build the system into our luxury home renovation work, on the same programme and contract.

I’d like to thank the team at Сraftex for the work they did on our office.
It was really important for us to get the work done quickly, but without compromising on quality, as we regularly have clients and guests visiting and needed to move into the new office within a month.
We spent around two weeks discussing and agreeing all the details before the work started. What I really appreciated was that everything we agreed beforehand was actually followed through during the job. The work was also completed on time.
Thanks to the whole Сraftex team for a great job. I’d definitely use them again if we need any work done in the future.IURII PYLYPETS

We managed to open in less than 6 weeks with no headaches or surprises during construction. Quality was great, we had zero snags on completion. I’ve worked with a few companies before but these guys really impressed me from project management to how they treat the client. Top GGs.

I worked perfectly with Sviat and Joe, with their architect they came up with a very smart design for our office to fit more desks and optimise the space to its maximum capacity. They also did excellent value engineering on the MEP design proposed by others, allowing us to save around £50K. The quality and speed were outstanding we finished two weeks ahead of schedule. Highly recommend these guys.

Craftex are the kind of fit-out contractors in London you can truly trust. From the very first meeting, they understood our vision and gave practical ideas to make the most of our space. They turned our old storage area into a clean, efficient, and well-organized warehouse. The team was professional, easy to work with, and clearly took pride in their work.Monika Kamionka

We brought in Craftex to refurb our London office and honestly, they made the whole thing way easier than we expected. They listened, suggested ideas we wouldn’t have thought of, and explained everything clearly. Not the cheapest quote we got, but the end result shows why, the place looks modern, clean, and our team actually enjoys being here now. Communication was spot-on too. No chasing and confusion, deadlines were hit. If you want people who genuinely care and don’t treat your project like “another job,” I’d recommend them.

Sviat and his team at Craftex were brilliant to work with on our office redesign. From the first meeting, they took the time to understand how we actually use the space rather than just pitching generic solutions. They came back with clever, practical ideas to maximise use of the space and get more employees and desks inside . Every step was handled professionally, and the process felt surprisingly smooth for a project of this size. They finished one week ahead of schedule, and the transformation is clear — our office feels brighter, more functional, and much more welcoming. I’d happily recommend Craftex to anyone who wants a reliable design team that also makes the journey enjoyable.

I always felt like they cared about creating a space that worked for me, not just one that looked nice on paper. The end result is an office that feels stylish, welcoming, and very functional for day-to-day work. The process itself was straightforward, well-managed, and never stressful. We hired Craftex for a commercial ground floor fit-out with 2 flats above. There were some minor co-ordination hiccups with third-party suppliers but the team kept it moving. Finish quality was strong. Kitchens and doors look great. I have already asked them for a quote on the next project.

We recently hired Craftex for a commercial office fit-out project in Central London, and overall, we’re really happy with the result. There was a delay on our side with a custom glass partition supplier, but the Craftex team managed the construction schedule very professionally and kept everything on track. Their guys worked clean, respected our workspace and IT setup, and kept the site tidy throughout. If you're looking for a reliable office refurbishment company in London, I’d definitely recommend Craftex. Would use them again without hesitation.

This was a full high-end renovation of my Victorian rental apartment in Westminster, just off Sloane Square and Belgravia. The scope included full fit-out: electrics, plumbing, a new bespoke kitchen, and a luxury bathroom refurbishment. Craftex took care of everything and made the process easy. They weren’t the cheapest, but you can tell they really know what they’re doing when it comes to prime London property renovations.
The team was professional, organised, and genuinely seemed to care about getting everything right. I was especially impressed with the quality of the finish – the attention to detail really shows in every corner.
I’m very happy with the results and would definitely recommend Craftex to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality renovation work in Central London.Наталия Цимбалюк

We used Craftex for a shop-to-flat conversion in Chelsea — turning an old retail space into two rental units. Access wasn’t the easiest, but the guys handled it well, no drama. Quote was clear, no hidden extras, and they actually stuck to it, which is rare. Finish came out solid, exactly what we needed for rentals. Joe (PM) kept things ticking and communication was always on point. All in all, smooth job — would use them again for sure.👍

Could not be HAPPIER with Sviat and the Craftex team, they certainly showed me that they’re the number one office design company in London that we’ve had the pleasure of working with. They gave us a unique design just like we wanted, and we loved the first initial draft of the concept. Also have to give them props for Construction, I gave them a tight timeline as we needed to move our team in ASAP, so they pulled double shifts and I didn’t see a drop in quality. Will be to talking to the team when we move up to our next bigger office. Highly recommended A+++

I and my husband are very satisfied with Craftex's service and customer support. We bought a house in Hampstead and wanted to redesign and renovate it. On our initial free consultation with Sviat, we found out that we actually can do loft conversion and rear extension and add value to the property straight away.
We worked with the Craftex design team to bring our vision to life and deliver planning approvals. At that time guys started stripping out to save time on the construction programme as we wanted to move in ASAP.
We worked with very experienced project director Konstantin who was responsible for all aspects of project delivery from design to construction with a very good eye on details and customer care.
We saved a lot of money by having professional advice from the start. Project management and quality at Craftex are at the highest level. Many thanks to Craftex Team.Lia Lavryk
