Data Centre Expansion & Infrastructure Upgrade — Manchester, UK
Data Centre Expansion & Infrastructure
Craftex delivered a high-performance data centre expansion for a healthcare technology provider, ensuring resilience, compliance, and future scalability across mission-critical systems.
Following the successful refurbishment of their regional office, Craftex was commissioned to expand and upgrade an existing data centre facility for a leading healthcare technology client in Manchester.
The goal: to double rack capacity, introduce next-generation cooling systems, and upgrade the entire electrical backbone — all without disrupting ongoing operations.
Craftex’s multidisciplinary team executed a comprehensive design-and-build programme, transforming a legacy server room into a modern, energy-optimised, compliant data environment tailored for healthcare data storage and telemedicine applications.

SERVICES
Healthcare systems can’t afford downtime — every second counts. Craftex engineered a new backbone of infrastructure capable of supporting continuous uptime with no single point of failure.
Strengthening Core Infrastructure
Key highlights include:
Dual power feeds with automatic transfer switches and redundant UPS systems.
Smart cooling architecture with aisle containment and variable-speed fans reducing hot spots.
Optimised raised flooring for underfloor airflow and concealed cabling.
Structured fibre optic backbone, ready for 10–40 Gbps network speeds.
Our integrated mechanical and electrical design ensured efficient coordination between contractors, resulting in a seamless installation with zero service interruptions.
Given the sensitivity of healthcare data, the client required strict adherence to ISO 27001 and NHS data hosting standards. Craftex implemented:
Biometric access controls and CCTV at all data zones.
Gas-based fire suppression (IG-541 system) for equipment protection without residue.
Temperature, humidity, and leak detection sensors linked to a central monitoring panel.
Redundant fibre and power routing to achieve compliance with Tier 3 availability standards.
The project also included extensive documentation and commissioning reports to align with audit and compliance protocols — vital for a healthcare-grade data environment.
Building for Compliance and Data Security
Sustainability was a major design priority. The upgraded systems reduced energy waste and heat output while improving operational performance. Our environmental design achieved:
22% reduction in overall energy consumption through EC fans and advanced cooling control.
LED lighting with smart sensors, lowering lighting power density.
Recyclable raised floor materials and locally sourced containment units.
The new facility now aligns with BREEAM “Very Good” environmental standards, setting a strong benchmark for future healthcare technology builds.
Energy Efficiency & Sustainability
After completion, the client reported a measurable improvement in system reliability, cooling performance, and compliance readiness. Key outcomes:
Zero downtime during migration and testing phases.
100% audit pass rate under ISO 27001 inspection.
Cooling efficiency improved by 25% year-over-year.
Full scalability for future cloud and AI workloads.
“Craftex’s technical knowledge and collaborative delivery gave us total confidence. The new facility not only meets today’s needs but is future-proofed for tomorrow’s innovations.” — Infrastructure Manager, Healthcare Technology Client
